Wendy’s Is Bringing Its Famous Chili to Grocery Stores Soon

Wendy’s has always been a rather unique corner of the fast-food category. While the brand may offer items such as burgers and fries just as other fast-food giants do, it always does things just a bit differently. Their nuggets have a spicier kick; their burgers, a square shape. But perhaps the most innovative part of the Wendy’s experience are those menu items that you can’t find anywhere else — like famous chili.

Legend has it that Wendy’s chili was originally created as a way of avoiding food waste by using up leftover hamburger meat before it expired. Combined with a blend of spices, vegetables, and beans, it soon became a favorite of anyone stopping by the famous fast-food joint. Whether enjoyed with crackers, over fries, or even on top of one of the chain’s also-beloved baked potatoes, there’s no denying the following the chili has amassed.

Now that chili is about to get a lot more accessible, as it is being launched in grocery stores. ConAgra Brands announced during its Consumer Analyst Group of New York (CAGNY) conference that their chili will soon be rolling out into grocery stores. And apparently, it’s already happening, as some on social media are already spotting it on shelves and on Instacart.

This chili will be sold in a 15-ounce can and, according to the label, is made from beef, tomato purée, beans, onions, and peppers. This canned meal is meant to be heated and served, as with all the other canned soups and chilis that are currently on shelves.

Launching fast-food-menu favorites in grocery stores is not a new move. Chick-fil-A’s salad dressings and White Castle’s burgers are just a few examples of grocery store versions of our favorite drive-thru items. But a new hot and delicious chili in grocery stores may end up being a game-changer.
